As a pervasive global human rights concern, gender-based violence is experienced by nearly one in three women globally. It transcends all economic, social and geographic boundaries. It strips survivors of their fundamental health, agency and dignity.
The Sexual Violence Research Initiative (SVRI) Forum is the world's leading conference on research, evidence and solutions to prevent and respond to gender-based violence. UNFPA has been part of SVRI since its creation in 2003.
Co-hosted by UNFPA and UN Women through the UN Joint Programme on GBV Prevention in Southeast Asia, the 2026 edition of the Forum takes place in Bangkok, Thailand, from 5 to 9 October, under the theme "Where research, collaboration and innovation converge". It brings together the researchers, practitioners, activists, policymakers and funders around the world working to end violence against women and girls in all their diversity.
As a leading voice in preventing and responding to gender-based violence, UNFPA implements transformative initiatives across more than 150 countries and territories spanning humanitarian, peace and development contexts. Across more than 40 sessions, UNFPA will bring evidence and experience from the ground to the question at the centre of this gathering: what works to prevent and respond to violence.
