Pakistan

Owing to Pakistan’s particular geographical location, it is highly impacted by changes in climate, making it one of the most vulnerable countries to shocks such as floods, drought, and heatwaves. UNFPA prioritizes the sexual and reproductive health needs of women and  adolescent girls that are affected by disasters. This includes programmes that increase their access to sexual and reproductive health services and protects them from gender-based violence.

UNFPA works with government, civil society partners and other humanitarian agencies to coordinate the delivery of dignity kits, clean birthing kits, training of skilled birth attendants, referral support mechanisms for 24/7 emergency obstetric care; and community awareness campaigns on sexual and reproductive health and gender-based violence issues. Notable past humanitarian responses include the floods in 2022 and 2010 as well as the earthquake in 2005, where UNFPA reached millions of affected people with sexual and reproductive health services and gender-based violence response services.

UNFPA has been providing crucial sexual and reproductive health and gender-based violence services to Afghan refugees and host communities in Pakistan, as well as strengthening public health systems and building resilience through training, coordination, and direct support.
