For nearly seventy years, Myanmar has experienced internal conflict that has greatly impacted civilians, especially in its border regions. The nation is also prone to natural disasters such as earthquakes, floods, and cyclones. Currently, millions are in urgent need of humanitarian aid due to the combined effects of ongoing conflict and frequent disasters.

In this difficult environment, UNFPA collaborates with local communities to provide essential sexual and reproductive health services during emergencies, from preparedness through to response. With the Minimum Initial Service Package (MISP), UNFPA guarantees that women and girls can access crucial care in the initial days and weeks of a crisis. This encompasses the prevention of maternal deaths, lowering HIV transmission rates, addressing the effects of sexual violence, and establishing a foundation for long-term health services.

Moreover, UNFPA enhances local capacities by training frontline responders, facilitating sexual and reproductive health and gender-based violence coordination systems, and stockpiling emergency supplies. Through strategically placed warehouses, UNFPA ensures the quick distribution of emergency reproductive health kits and essential items for women, aiding them in maintaining their health, dignity, and protection during critical times.

In addition to immediate assistance, UNFPA prioritizes safe spaces for women and girls, where survivors of gender-based violence can receive psychosocial support and referrals to essential services. These initiatives not only save lives in the short term but also promote resilience and recovery for communities facing prolonged crises.

By partnering closely with local organizations, UNFPA places women, girls, and youth at the forefront of humanitarian efforts, ensuring that their voices are acknowledged and their rights are safeguarded, even during the toughest times.
