UNFPA’s flagship 2025 State of World Population Report was launched in Asia and the Pacific at the Third Ministerial Conference on CRVS in Asia and the Pacific, providing a critical opportunity to spotlight how reproductive agency, fertility aspirations, and inclusive data systems intersect to shape human rights and gender equality in the region.

The report reveals that millions across Asia-Pacific are unable to realize their fertility aspirations not by choice but due to economic, institutional, and social barriers, while unintended pregnancies and deeply rooted gender-based disparities in health and rights persist.

Launching the report at a side event at the conference offers a unique opportunity to further explore these connections. Through compelling country experiences from Fiji, Pakistan and Indonesia, the event demonstrates how strengthened CRVS systems can provide the granular data necessary to count everyone, address sex differentials in vital event registration, and support the accurate capture of gender-related issues such as adolescent pregnancy, femicides, and the importance of marriage and divorce registration. Ultimately, this leads to more effective policymaking and targeted interventions that leave no one behind.
